About The Position

The Painter/Blaster is responsible for operating industrial spray painting and media blasting equipment to apply protective coatings to production equipment, piping, and fabricated materials. This role focuses on proper surface preparation, coating application, and ensuring high-quality finishes that meet industry and company standards. As a Painter/Blaster, you’ll work in a hands-on shop environment focused on safety, precision, and high-quality industrial coatings in a production-driven setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2–5 years of industrial painting and/or blasting experience
  • Experience with surface preparation (abrasive blasting, hand and power tools)
  • Knowledge of industrial coatings (epoxies, urethanes, zincs) and application methods (airless, conventional spray, brush/roller)
  • Experience with 2-part mixing processes and HVLP equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and specifications in English
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding of quality control standards for coatings and finishes
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and complete accurate documentation
  • Strong safety awareness and adherence to safety practices

Responsibilities

  • Perform surface preparation and apply protective coatings to piping, steel structures, and related components
  • Operate and maintain blasting, spraying, and coating equipment
  • Mix and prepare primers, paints, and coatings to proper consistency using solvents and additives
  • Select appropriate pressures, nozzles, and settings based on environmental conditions and job requirements
  • Clean, mask, plug, or protect surfaces prior to coating
  • Apply coatings evenly to achieve smooth finishes free of runs, thin spots, or defects
  • Inspect finished products for quality (coverage, pinholes, runs, and thickness) and perform touch-ups as needed
  • Move finished materials to inspection or shipping areas
  • Maintain equipment, spray booths, filters, and work areas
  • Ensure adequate supply of painting and coating materials
  • Coordinate with production teams regarding part availability
  • Follow OSHA safety standards and company safety policies
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S principles
  • Complete required documentation and reporting
  • Perform other duties as assigned
