Industrial Abrasive Blaster

LoenbroArizona, AZ

About The Position

We are looking for an experienced Industrial Abrasive Blaster to join our coatings team at our Chandler fabrication facility. This is a hands-on production role supporting structural steel fabrication and coatings operations. You will be responsible for preparing steel — beams, plates, pipe, tanks, and fabricated assemblies — to specified surface profile standards prior to coating application. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and production efficiency.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial abrasive blasting, preferably in structural steel fabrication or industrial coatings.
  • Working knowledge of SSPC surface preparation standards (SP-6, SP-10, SP-5)
  • Hands-on experience with pressure blast equipment operation and basic maintenance
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, coating data sheets, and inspection checklists
  • Respirator fit test and medical clearance required (coordinated through Loenbro)
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, work in full PPE, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check

Nice To Haves

  • Experience blasting concrete is a plus.
  • OSHA 10 Construction or General Industry certification
  • SSPC-BCS (Blasting and Coating Specialist) certification or equivalent
  • Experience with NACE coating inspection and surface profile measurement tools (Testex tape, DFT gauge)
  • Familiarity with ISO 12944 or AISC coating specifications
  • Experience working in a fabrication shop or industrial coatings environment
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Operate pressure blast equipment to clean and profile structural steel and fabricated assemblies to SSPC/NACE surface preparation standards (SP-6, SP-10, SP-5)
  • Read and interpret work orders, drawings, coating specifications, and inspection requirements to determine correct blast profile and anchor pattern
  • Inspect surfaces prior to blasting and after for mill scale, rust, weld spatter, and contaminants; communicate deficiencies to the lead or QC.
  • Set up and break down blast equipment including pots, hoses, nozzles, and containment
  • Monitor and adjust air pressure and abrasive flow to achieve specified surface finish
  • Perform daily equipment inspections — check hoses, couplings, nozzles, and deadman handles; report deficiencies immediately
  • Work in coordination with the coatings crew to maintain production flow and minimize time between blast and coat
  • Maintain the blast area; reclaim and recycle abrasive media where applicable
  • Properly dispose of blast waste in accordance with site EHS procedures and waste manifests
  • Follow all PPE requirements — supplied air respirator, blast hood, leather gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots are required at all times in the blast area
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed to support business operations.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Paid time off (PTO) and holiday pay
  • Life and disability insurance
