About The Position

Smith + Howard is seeking an Indirect Tax Compliance Manager to lead multi-state and local indirect tax compliance engagements for clients across North America. This role involves collaborating with a network of SALT professionals to ensure accurate, timely filings across complex jurisdictions. The manager will oversee end-to-end engagement delivery, including preparation, review, workflow coordination, and quality control to meet client and regulatory requirements. Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fields
Five to ten years of sales tax compliance experience, preferred
Experience managing staff and client relationships in a professional services setting
Strong analytical skills and ability to resolve complex problems independently or collaboratively
Excellent communication and time management skills across multiple projects

CPA or CMI license preferred

Responsibilities

Uphold firm and AICPA and IPT ethical standards while maintaining strict client confidentiality.
Deliver high-quality state and local use compliance services with strong client focus and attention to detail.
Lead planning, execution, and completion of compliance engagements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and jurisdictional compliance.
Supervise and guide associates and seniors to ensure consistent, high-quality client service throughout engagements.
Review and finalize state and local tax filings to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Manage engagement workflows, deadlines, and resources to ensure efficient service delivery.
Respond to tax notices and assist with audits and issue resolution as needed.
Identify and support process improvements and use of technology to enhance efficiency.
Build and maintain strong client relationships to support ongoing compliance needs.
