About The Position

The Indigenous Student Recruitment Officer (ISRO) is responsible for developing and delivering targeted recruitment and conversion initiatives to increase the number of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students applying to and enrolling at the University of Guelph. Reporting to the Assistant Registrar, Student Recruitment, the ISRO leads Indigenous-focused outreach and engagement activities grounded in relationship-building, respect, and reciprocity. The role builds and maintains meaningful connections with Indigenous communities, organizations, schools, and prospective students and their supporters. Working as part of the Student Recruitment team within Admission Services, the ISRO contributes to institutional commitments outlined in Bi Naagwad | It Comes Into View and supports community-informed approaches to recruitment and access.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Approximately 2 years of relevant experience in recruitment, education, community engagement, or a related field
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, or youth
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain respectful relationships with Indigenous communities and partners
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Understanding and ability to engage with Indigenous communities, cultures, and perspectives
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and virtual platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams)
  • Valid G Class Ontario Driver’s License and ability to travel regularly, including evenings and weekends required

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver Indigenous-focused recruitment and conversion initiatives aligned with enrolment goals
  • Build and maintain relationship-based connections with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities, organizations, and education partners
  • Represent the University at Indigenous recruitment events, community visits, and outreach activities
  • Deliver engaging and culturally relevant presentations and information sessions to prospective students and their supporters
  • Collaborate with the Indigenous Student Centre and Office of Indigenous Initiatives to align recruitment approaches with institutional priorities and community-informed practices
  • Share insights from community engagement to inform recruitment strategies, messaging, and approaches
  • Identify trends, barriers, and opportunities to improve access for Indigenous students
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective Indigenous students and their supporters
  • Provide accurate information on academic programs, admissions requirements, and student supports
  • Support students in navigating pathways to post-secondary education
  • Contribute to the development of recruitment communications and outreach initiatives for Indigenous audiences
  • Support the planning and delivery of recruitment events, including Indigenous-focused programming
  • Maintain records of recruitment activities and outcomes within CRM systems
