About The Position

Reporting directly to the Early Years Manager, the Indigenous Early Years Outreach (IEYO) Consultant provides family-centred, culturally safe, and strengths-based services to children aged 0–6 who are at risk of developmental delay and/or disability, and to their families. Through early intervention, developmental support, home visiting, family support, consultation, and individualized planning, the Consultant promotes children's development, inclusion, and successful participation within their families, communities, and early learning environments. The Indigenous Early Years Outreach Consultant is a member of the Community Services team within the Early Years Department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood development, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Human Services, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum three (3) years of related experience supporting children aged 0–6 and their families.
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, results acceptable to WFN
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract with access to a reliable vehicle required.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Meets all immunization and tuberculosis screening requirements in accordance with provincial legislation and program requirements.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation and clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Indigenous children, families, and communities is considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge and training in: DAYC-2, ASQ-3, ASQ-SE-2, Motivational Interviewing, Moe the Mouse, and Circle of Security-Parenting considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the Westbank First Nation WFN) staff including the Out of School Care Program (OSC), Westbank Child Development Centre (WCDC), Sensisyusten, the WFN Family Program, and the WFN Wellness Team, to support children that require additional assistance to fully participate in activities.
  • Provides support, consultation, and training for parents/caregivers and childcare providers.
  • Provides services that strengthen the child's "Circle of Support" within the context of their family and their community.
  • Conducts home visits to provide developmental support, coaching, education, and resources to families in their home and community environments.
  • Determines eligibility and levels of support that can be provided by a support worker
  • Conducts developmental screenings and assessments when needed and refers to external professional assessments
  • Creates an Individual Service Plan (ISP) for each child. These include strategies and activities for inclusion, as well as daily activities and experiences to meet developmental goals and objectives.
  • Informs families of available resources and supports and makes referrals to relevant services as needed.
  • Maintains comprehensive, up-to-date electronic files for each child, ensuring necessary forms and consents are complete. Prepares and completes reports as required by the province
  • Ensures timely and accurate reporting as required by the province.
  • Assists in transitions to kindergarten, middle school, or other transitions that may impact the child.
  • Works within a flexible schedule and performs other duties as necessary in the performance of the position and as directed.
