About The Position

The Common Law Section is seeking two Indigenous Academic Tutors for the Academic Year 2026-2027, specifically for the Fall Semester. This position is classified as a Tutor under the CUPE 2626 collective agreement. The role involves supporting students, particularly Indigenous learners, in their academic pursuits within the JD program. The tutors will work under the supervision of a professor and are expected to demonstrate initiative, creativity, and adaptability in their approach to teaching and learning. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in the JD program or have recently completed the JD program.
  • Minimum GPA of 6.5 or higher.
  • Must have completed Constitutional Law II.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in legal writing.
  • Prior tutoring experience.
  • Aptitude using technology for teaching purposes.
  • Ability to take initiative, and to work independently and creatively.
  • Flexibility and adaptability around new teaching/learning conditions.
  • A demonstrated understanding with respect to the barriers faced by Indigenous learners and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic support to students, with a focus on Indigenous learners.
  • Assist students in understanding course material, particularly in Constitutional Law II.
  • Utilize technology for teaching and learning purposes.
  • Work independently and creatively to support student learning.
  • Adapt to new teaching and learning conditions.
  • Collaborate with supervising professors to define specific task allocations and hours.
