AVID, which stands for Advancement via Individual Determination, is an in-school academic program designed to prepare middle and high school students for college eligibility and success. AVID tutors are undergraduate and graduate college students who mentor and tutor students, helping them on their path to college. This role offers flexible hours that can be arranged around your college class schedule. The AVID program operates in middle and high schools across coastal San Diego County, from Del Mar and Carmel Valley to Encinitas and La Costa. Being an AVID tutor is a valuable opportunity to work with students in small groups, fostering your own mentoring and leadership skills. AVID tutors utilize their knowledge and experience to significantly contribute to the success of the AVID elective class by facilitating student learning with a rigorous curriculum. Tutors lead study groups, promote student participation and collaboration, and cultivate an engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. Tutors act as active learning resources and serve as positive role models for students. Tutors typically work up to 19.5 hours per week.
