About The Position

The City of Farmington is seeking a part-time Indian Center Aide to work under the supervision of the Farmington Indian Center (FIC) Director. This role involves providing excellent customer service, assisting with food preparation and service, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting events and programs. The position requires operating a motor vehicle, handling cash transactions, and adhering to food safety regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent GED.
  • Ability to work harmoniously and courteously.
  • At least one (1) year of experience as wait staff.
  • Knowledge of modern food service operations.
  • Customer service skills required.
  • Must read and understand the general food service provisions, procedures, and requirements as set forth by the New Mexico Environment Department for Food Service and Processor Regulations.
  • Must be able to sit and talk or hear occasionally.
  • Must continuously walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • ANSI certificated Food Handler Certification preferred, may be obtained through City classes after entry into employment within 90 days.
  • Ability to speak and understand the Navajo Language preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Work part-time under the supervision of the Farmington Indian Center (FIC) Director.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the general public using excellent customer service skills.
  • Operate a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
  • Assist in preparing Navajo cultural food.
  • Serve meals to patrons according to established rules of etiquette in a formal setting.
  • Write orders on checks, relay orders to the kitchen, and serve courses from the kitchen counter.
  • Receive full trays from the kitchen, service salad bars, and serve drinks.
  • Observe diners to respond to additional requests and determine when meals are completed.
  • Ladle soup, toss salads, portion pies and desserts, brew coffee, and perform other food service tasks.
  • Clear and reset counters or tables at the conclusion of each course or end of the day.
  • Decorate the dining area in accordance with special days.
  • Wear aprons, hair nets, caps, or chef hats as required for food service workers.
  • Sweep, mop, or vacuum the dining room floor/carpet daily.
  • Keep food and temperature logs up to date and complete other daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Participate in emergency drills and environmental safety activities, and document safety protocols.
  • Assist with events and programs as needed throughout Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs (PRCA).
  • Wear close-toed shoes and appropriate clothing.
  • Operate a cash register and prepare deposits with peripheral electronic processing equipment.
  • Attend work as an essential function of the position.
  • Unless assigned by the Director, not permitted to cook meals.
  • Work other related FIC activities within the Farmington Indian Center as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, such as after-hours work or work on weekends.

  • Hiring wage of $12.75 per hour.
