About The Position

The Center Aide is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the Head Start and Early Head Start Program. This employee will fill in where needed and as extra duties are needed in program operations. Work hours may be adjusted, per authorization of supervisor and/or Executive Director.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/ GED; and/or a combination of knowledge and philosophy of practices of early childhood education, and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Can enroll in a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) program and complete the CDA program within 1 year and enroll in an associate degree program in Early Childhood Education or related field, AND one year experience working with pre-school age children in a classroom setting.
  • Must have knowledge and at least one year's experience in child development and early childhood education.
  • Must be capable of heavy lifting.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Be able to verbally communicate and have the necessary personal qualifications to deal with staff and individuals/groups with varying abilities.
  • Possess the ability to accept directions and learn under supervision.
  • Flexible, with the ability to work in a highly demanding environment.
  • Ability to cooperate successfully as a member of a team.
  • Must pass background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Nebraska driver's license preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Report to work Monday through Friday; 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Notify the supervisor and the program before 6:45 a.m. if unable to work.
  • Mandatory reporter of all incidents of child abuse and neglect.
  • Handles confidential information with discretion concerning all children.
  • Attends training classes and Head Start in-service orientation.
  • Must be able to report to work as schedule directs.
  • Limit discussion of children, families, and staff; discuss factual information.
  • Avoid gossip and inappropriate labels; avoid gossip about staff's personal/professional status.
  • Do not talk about children disparagingly in front of other children.
  • Be willing to establish nurturing bonds with children and foster a positive relationship with parents/guardians, supports parents in their role as primary educator of their child.
  • Serve as a substitute in the following areas: Teacher's Aide/Bus Monitor, Assistant Cook, Office Assistant, Infant and Toddler Substitute Teacher, Maintenance/Custodian.
  • Uphold the confidentiality of child and family information in accordance with the confidentiality policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned as vacancies occur.
