About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative and technical supervision of an Economic Services Unit with a small staff of income maintenance caseworkers. This role is responsible for the intake, processing, and review functions of determining and/or redetermining applicant/client eligibility for services within the federal and state Food and Nutrition Program. The employee is responsible for the work of income maintenance caseworkers and supervises intake, processing, and review functions for the Economic Services Program. This role involves planning short and some long-range work operations, priorities, and goals within the unit, providing leadership through modeling excellence and professionalism, and offering daily guidance, counseling, and support to unit staff. The employee will assign and balance workloads, coordinate workflow, develop procedures, and recommend organizational changes to improve efficiency. Responsibilities also include assessing and projecting staffing, equipment, and supply needs, and submitting requests in writing. The position provides on-the-job training, assesses training needs, and arranges for staff to attend job-related training. Ensuring staff adherence to Local, State, and Federal standards for case processing quality and compliance with all workplace rules, regulations, policies, and laws is critical. The employee has input in setting internal agency standards, gathers statistical data on unit performance, identifies trends, and prepares reports based on data analysis. Evaluating staff performance using various data sources, conducting second-party reviews of ongoing cases, counseling staff on performance and grievance policies, and issuing warnings are also key duties. Recommendations on dismissals, merit raises, appraisals, reassignments, and salary adjustments are made to higher-level supervisors. Employees may interview applicants, typically in conjunction with higher-level management.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience as a caseworker or investigator in an income maintenance program.
  • Preferably one year of supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience.
