As an Income Maintenance Caseworker II – NEMT, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring Alamance County Medicaid recipients have reliable access to medical care by coordinating non-emergency transportation services. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, helping people navigate systems, and managing details in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. All DSS positions are subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and client population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as required and may be required to staff shelter overnight.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and three years of paraprofessional, clerical, or public-contact experience involving tasks such as interviewing, negotiating, explaining information, data collection/analysis, or mathematical/legal work
  • High school diploma and two years of similar experience, including at least one year in an income-maintenance program
  • Associate degree in Human Services Technology, Social Services, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related field
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least one year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and authorizing Non-Emergency Medicaid Transportation (NEMT) services
  • Logging and tracking trip requests, approvals, denials, and required notifications
  • Verifying Medicaid eligibility at the time of request and prior to service delivery
  • Conducting eligibility determinations and re-determinations through assessments
  • Documenting eligibility decisions and maintaining accurate transportation records
  • Uploading payment authorizations and reviewing response files in NC Tracks
  • Operating the NEMT phone system, responding to calls and messages within 24 hours
  • Collaborating with transportation vendors, community partners, and internal teams
  • Processing mileage reimbursement and other travel-related expenses
