About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is taking and processing Emergency Assistance applications. This includes determining eligibility and documenting each application for the Emergency Assistance program, which encompasses CIP, LIEAP, Duke, GA, and WFCA. The role involves completing and submitting check requisitions daily, documenting spending in the appropriate database (including NCFAST), and referring clients to other community agencies when funding is exhausted. The caseworker will maintain an Emergency Assistance manual for programs not housed in NCFAST, use online DHHS manuals for CIP and LIEAP, and record time in the timekeeper system daily. Additionally, the position assists Medicaid and FNS clients with Fishing License waivers, purges the central file room based on record retention schedules, and may be required to staff emergency shelters during community emergencies or disasters, with potentially varying hours.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school and one year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend rules and regulations, often changing policies and guidelines pertaining to Medicaid assistance programs.
  • Ability to interpret agency's policies and procedures to people of varied backgrounds.
  • Ability to accurately key codes and data into NCFAST.
  • Ability to obtain data for documentation and verification of information needed in determining eligibility.
  • Ability to detect need for other agency services and make appropriate referrals to the service staff.
  • Ability to work with facts and figures and perform tasks involving a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to learn the intricacies of numerous forms and procedures of the eligibility programs.
  • Ability to present information orally or in report form.
  • Acquire interest in and understanding of disadvantaged persons.
  • Possess qualities of patience and tolerance, and an awareness of various cultures.
  • Must have ability to effectively communicate face-to-face and on the telephone.
  • Will accept "work-against" applications.
