About The Position

Braintrust Tutors is seeking mission-driven individuals to accelerate learning for students in need. They partner with districts to deliver high-impact literacy and math interventions. Tutors are certified, trained educators who believe in evidence-based instruction and personalized support. The role offers opportunities in Reading and Math, allowing tutors to specialize or cover both. Reading Tutors work with elementary students on comprehension, fluency, and critical thinking using structured intervention programs. Math Tutors work with students to strengthen mathematical reasoning, number sense, and problem-solving strategies using Braintrust Tutors' curriculum. The priority is to match tutors with in-person engagements, with potential for online roles to supplement schedules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
  • Active/expired teaching license or at least 5 years of experience working with K-8 students in an educational environment (READING)
  • Experience with reading instruction that includes morphology-based word study, vocabulary development, reading comprehension strategies, and writing skills covering grammar, syntax, and multi-paragraph composition using a structured scope and sequence. (READING)
  • Knowledge of math instruction that builds number sense, procedural fluency, and problem-solving skills, with a scope and sequence ranging from counting to multi-digit arithmetic, including decimals and fractions. (MATH)
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Comfort collaborating with teachers and staff
  • Punctuality, professionalism, and reliability for all scheduled sessions
  • Reliable transportation and/or appropriate technology for instruction
  • A laptop with Windows or macOS that uses either Chrome/Edge Chrome 115+ (recommended), Firefox 115+ or Safari 16+. iPads are also acceptable with iOS 17 or greater with an external keyboard
  • Passion for literacy and closing opportunity gaps
  • Availability for the entire schedule (12-14 weeks)

Responsibilities

  • Provide small-group reading/math tutoring to students developing literacy skills
  • Implement Braintrust Tutors' intervention programs as designed, using all materials with fidelity
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic performance
  • Collaborate with the Braintrust Tutors Operations team and school staff to support student growth
  • Foster a supportive and engaging classroom environment that promotes focus and confidence
  • Follow school-site procedures and policies while maintaining a professional and dependable presence
  • Use the provided assessments and progress monitoring tools for understanding to guide instruction
  • Manage time effectively during sessions to complete all planned instructional activities
