About The Position

Braintrust Tutors is seeking dedicated reading and math educators for in-person support in the Rancho Cucamonga, CA area. This is a part-time contractor 1099 role. Tutoring will occur 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) during after-school hours, with 3 sessions per day, each 45 minutes long. The engagement dates are from September 8th to December 13th, located at Felix Varela Senior High, serving students in grades 6th through 8th. The compensation is $60/hour, prorated per session. Applicants must be available for the entire schedule. As a Reading Tutor, you will work with elementary students to strengthen reading comprehension, fluency, and critical thinking skills using structured intervention programs. As a Math Tutor, you will work with students to strengthen mathematical reasoning, number sense, and problem-solving strategies using Braintrust Tutors' curriculum. While in-person roles are prioritized, additional online roles may be available to supplement the schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
  • Active/expired teaching license or at least 5 years of experience working with K-8 students in an educational environment
  • Knowledge of math instruction that builds number sense, procedural fluency, and problem-solving skills, with a scope and sequence ranging from counting to multi-digit arithmetic, including decimals and fractions. Expertise in foundational math operations, algebraic problem-solving and geometry is also required.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Comfort collaborating with teachers and staff
  • Punctuality, professionalism, and reliability for all scheduled sessions
  • Reliable transportation and/or appropriate technology for instruction
  • A laptop with Windows or macOS that uses either Chrome/Edge Chrome 115+ (recommended), Firefox 115+ or Safari 16+. iPads are also acceptable with iOS 17 or greater with an external keyboard
  • Passion for literacy and closing opportunity gaps
  • Availability for the entire schedule (Sept 8th - Dec 13th)

Responsibilities

  • Provide small-group or 1:1 reading/math tutoring to students developing literacy skills
  • Implement Braintrust Tutors' intervention programs as designed, using all materials with fidelity
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic performance
  • Collaborate with the Braintrust Tutors Operations team and school staff to support student growth
  • Foster a supportive and engaging classroom environment that promotes focus and confidence
  • Follow school-site procedures and policies while maintaining a professional and dependable presence
  • Use the provided assessments and progress monitoring tools for understanding to guide instruction
  • Manage time effectively during sessions to complete all planned instructional activities
