Combustion engines rely on precise control of fuel and air mixing to ensure optimal performance and efficiency. In aviation engines, proper fuel injection ensures steady combustion and proper temperatures at critical components. However, diagnostics for aviation injection are challenging since the fuel injection is hidden inside the atomizer and the combustor. X-ray diagnostics enable measurements through opaque materials, and can lead to the development of improved computational tools and more efficient engines. The student will work with the x-ray fuel injection team to analyze x-ray measurements of fuel injection. They will process the measurements and work with the computational team to incorporate the results into model validation workflows, along with preparing manuscripts for public dissemination of the results.
