About The Position

Applied Materials is seeking an Import Trade Operations Specialist to join their Legal and Compliance Organization in Austin, TX. This role is part of the Global Trade Operations team and is responsible for ensuring the company's US business operations comply with customs regulations and import control laws efficiently and effectively. The specialist will participate in import operations execution and process improvement initiatives to achieve operational excellence. This role requires collaboration with various internal departments, external service providers, suppliers, customs brokers, and government agencies, and necessitates a working knowledge of U.S. import laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of and experience with U.S. CBP, FTR laws and regulations and their practical application in import compliance processes, procedures, and policies.
  • Understanding of PGA including FDA, USDA, EPA.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with professionals and people at all levels of the organization and operate effectively within a team environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and identify patterns and trends.
  • Proficient in Excel, data analytics, and visualization.
  • Well-developed organizational, priority management, and planning skills.
  • Working knowledge of integrated logistics management.
  • Excellent communication and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated customer focus with the ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy in task execution.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal direction, be self-motivated, and results-driven.
  • Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams and an international environment.
  • Exhibits a high level of integrity and discretion.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Preferred experience in highly regulated, high-tech, or semiconductor industry.
  • Professional Certificates, Licenses, Lean Six Sigma, and Training are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and resolve import shipment issues, collaborating with internal teams and third parties like freight forwarders, customs brokers, and government agencies, and escalating to management when necessary.
  • Identify process gaps, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities, and implement solutions in alignment with management.
  • Review and resolve data accuracy issues related to valuation, country of origin, unit of measure, and classification.
  • Interact with internal and external parties to obtain necessary supporting documents for import clearance.
  • Ensure import activities comply with government laws and regulations.
  • Define, enable, run, and operate processes and systems related to customs import controls.
  • Maintain processes, controls, record keeping, and prepare for audits regarding import entry.
  • Apply quality principles to identify process improvement opportunities, determine options, implement strategies, and make recommendations to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
