This role is responsible for managing an implementation group that works on large-scale, complex, enterprise-wide initiatives involving technology change, business process redesigns, and operating model reviews/amendments. The Implementation Manager conducts performance management, career development, staffing, and disciplinary actions, focusing on managing others and applying operational or strategic management skills. Management responsibilities include hiring, performance reviews, pay decisions, and development, achieving goals through the work of others and providing leadership to managers and professional staff. They are accountable for the performance and results of multiple related teams, developing departmental plans, and making decisions guided by resource availability and organizational objectives. Specifically, this position seeks an Implementation Manager to lead a large-scale, highly complex, enterprise-wide cloud transformation initiative. This role requires subject matter expertise in Northern Trust’s portfolio accounting and fund accounting products, and will be responsible for designing and implementing a scalable future state technology, business, product, and operating model. The Implementation Manager will manage multiple functions, provide leadership and guidance to subordinate managers, and take full ownership of project deliverables with minimal supervision. They will also look across all corporate strategic initiatives to understand how big picture initiatives link together in a holistic roadmap, validating that their work is aligned. Accountability for project outcomes, performance management, and career development programs will also reside with this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a pertinent field, with the ideal candidate possessing a degree in Finance, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, and/or Economics
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience in the portfolio accounting or fund accounting domains
  • Knowledge of business strategy development is necessary to provide long term planning and to manage the profitability/performance of a major business implementation.
  • Leadership and organizational skills are required to direct the activities of multiple teams.
  • Technical skills (and the ability to learn new technology) is required for the role, with a focus on being conversant with Azure cloud technology, SQL, Java, and APIs.
  • Excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize multiple deliverables, and to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A collaborative approach to working; Agile experience as a product owner or product manager is required for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive strategy and innovative solutions for enterprise-wide initiatives that address current and future business challenges and achieve organizational objectives.
  • Looks across all corporate strategic initiatives to understand how the big picture initiatives link together in a holistic roadmap.
  • Oversee, plan, and direct the activities of the project, ensuring that Business objectives are being met.
  • Develop, implement, and communicate an overall strategy to meet both the Business Unit's and Corporation's strategic plan. Direct the activities of those areas toward accomplishing those objectives.
  • Assume accountability for financial and staffing resources, including developing and managing capital and expense budgets, focused on continually improving efficiency, effectiveness and productivity.
  • Assume full accountability for timeline, delivery, performance, and profitability of the implementation.
  • Utilize extensive business experience and broad functional expertise to provide proactive strategic leadership, particularly within the accounting, unitization, and daily valuation product offerings.
  • Have an extensive track record of delivering complex products or transformation initiatives using Agile software development methodologies.
  • Have cross functional knowledge across the business and technology, with familiarity building scalable, stable, resilient software in the Cloud.
  • Coordinate and align priorities across competing stakeholders, including senior management, program leadership, other strategic initiatives, and clients/prospects.
  • Work directly with clients and prospects to market and implement the future state products.
  • Engage with and manage third party vendors, including staff augmentation and external service providers.
