About The Position
The Freelance Firm is a national network of experienced, high-level freelance attorneys and paralegals providing remote, on-demand support for legal projects. This role involves providing ongoing Master Calendar and Individual (Merits) Hearing coverage for an immigration law client in New York City, Newark, and Philadelphia. The position is contract-based with an expected starting workload of approximately 5+ hours per week, requiring recurring in-person hearing coverage.
Requirements
- Licensed and in good standing to practice Law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 5+ years of immigration law experience
- Strong immigration court experience
- Experience handling Master Calendar Hearings
- Experience handling Individual (Merits) Hearings
- Available for in-person coverage in New York City, Newark, and/or Philadelphia
- Strong communication and client-service skills
- Responsive, dependable, and able to work independently
Nice To Haves
- Fluency in Russian, Uzbek, or Tajik is highly preferred
- Fluency in Georgian, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Kazakh, or Kyrgyz is also a significant plus
- Interest in providing ongoing immigration hearing coverage
Responsibilities
- Provide coverage for Master Calendar Hearings
- Handle Individual (Merits) Hearings
- Review case files and prepare for scheduled hearings
- Appear in immigration court as needed
- Communicate with clients and supervising attorneys
- Provide timely updates following hearings
- Assist with other immigration matters as needed
Benefits
- Flat rate pay: $150 for remote MCH; $500 for in-person MCH; $1000 for in-person Individual Hearings
