About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager/Supervisor/Ops Coordinator, the Imaging Specialist I - Mammography is responsible for directing day-to-day activities of the department and supervision of the technical and support staff. This role involves performing a wide variety of technical procedures with quality patient care and assisting Physicians as needed. The position requires maintaining department regulatory requirements, accurately completing exams in RIS in real-time, and ensuring all exams are completed and images are sent to PACS. The specialist will also manage downtime procedures, ensure compliance with AAAHC guidelines, and handle cassette cleaning and repairs. They must demonstrate the ability to make timely, accurate, and safe decisions regarding patients, apply techniques to improve patient care, and actively set priorities, adjusting to unscheduled situations. Evaluating work completed in the department to match billed exams, rescheduling patients if necessary for correct billing, and educating staff on issues/errors are key functions. The role also involves accurate utilization of RIS and Synapse, proper QC of images, and ensuring images are sent to PACS for Radiologist review. Patient and family education regarding procedures, including pre and post-procedure instructions, is essential. The specialist will maintain quality control logs and perform QC on various imaging equipment as directed. They must verify patient identification and pregnancy status using double identifiers, assist Radiologists in procedures while practicing sterile techniques, and implement efficient and therapeutic care. Performing the proper procedure on the proper patient, demonstrating knowledge of universal precautions and sterile techniques, and using special needs resources for communication are also required. Assisting in the training of new hires and cross-training existing employees, observing patients for changes in status, and following patient's Advanced Directive are part of the role. Demonstrating commitment to quality and operational excellence, anticipating change, and making timely decisions focused on performance and results are crucial. The specialist must ensure optimal image QA, understand and apply appropriate imaging techniques and ALARA principles, position according to department protocols, and label/identify studies correctly. Proficient use of imaging equipment and imaging agents (contrast) according to protocol is necessary. The role also includes following departmental Safety Policies and Procedures for personal and patient safety, maintaining a safe work environment, and troubleshooting potential and actual problems.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of formal training program in an AMA approved school and meets the requirements of an appropriate State and/or Federal mandated certification or equivalent.
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) - CA Department of Public Health -REQUIRED
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

Responsibilities

  • Providing pre and post procedure education and reassurance
  • Interacting and communicating in a manner to reflect an understanding of the patient's age, culture, state of health, level of comprehension
  • Communicating and interacting with the patient's family in a way that is perceived positive and supportive while maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Maintaining AM/PM temperature logs when required
  • Performing Fluoro QC, Mammo QC, Dexa QC on a daily, weekly or monthly basis and any other Mammo QC required by ACR standards
  • Verifying patient identification and pregnancy status through the use of double identifiers (name and DOB)
  • Assisting Radiologist in procedures while practicing sterile techniques to prevent cross-contamination
  • Implementing, efficient and therapeutic care
  • Performing proper procedure on proper patient
  • Demonstrating knowledge of universal precautions and sterile techniques
  • Using special needs resources (translation, phone services) to communicate with customers that speak another language or have hearing/speech disorders
