About The Position

The Imaging & Referral Coordinator refers patients to external facilities for various ordered services/tests based on insurance, patient preference, physician preference, and/or location. This role involves updating and confirming patient demographic information and insurance eligibility, including coordination of benefits. The coordinator successfully processes orders and outside referrals, contacts patients to schedule appointments, and imports documents to the patient’s chart. They provide ongoing communication with patients regarding authorization, financial counseling, and scheduling, and respond to patient questions and complaints, resolving problems to maintain high patient satisfaction levels. Additionally, the role involves communicating clinical instructions for appointments/procedures, answering and resolving incoming calls and requests accurately and in a timely manner, triaging messages, and relaying them to appropriate staff. The coordinator accurately updates patient information in the practice management system and EMR, performs all required documentation, and ensures canceled appointments and related ancillary appointments are canceled and communicated to all stakeholders. A key responsibility is ensuring strict confidentiality of all health records and member information, meeting HIPAA guidelines. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two years of experience in the healthcare field is required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong customer service orientation are required.
  • Strong background in computers and data entry.
  • Knowledge of scheduling and billing methods and policies regarding productivity/workload analysis and scheduling procedures.

  • Previous scheduling or referral experience is preferred.
