About The Position

Come work with our family-oriented Imaging team! This part-time position is eligible for benefits and requires 24 hours per week, specifically every Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM. The role involves assisting patients in preparation for exams, providing basic instructions, transporting patients, and escorting them as needed. The Imaging Patient Assistant will utilize radiology computer systems, maintain exam rooms, greet patients and visitors, answer telephones, schedule appointments, and act as a liaison between physicians, radiologists, and technologists. Responsibilities also include providing radiology reports and images, managing health information records, and documenting patient information. The role requires completing routine maintenance and quality monitoring of imaging equipment, and assisting with screening and documentation of MRI implants. The position requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care and demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon hire unless department leader has determined it is not required.
• Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), or High School Graduate.
• No experience required.
• Competent in IV insertion and venipuncture, based on department need.
• Excellent communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of patients, staff and physicians.
• Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
• Intermediate computer skills including experience in using computer applications/systems and electronic mail.
• Must be able to follow directions and work well both independently and with technologists, physicians, and patients.

Responsibilities

• Assists patient in preparation for exam, provides basic instruction to patients regarding routine procedures, transports patients between exam rooms/departments and escorts patients, families, and visitors if department needs require.
• Uses radiology computer systems to generate requisitions, check schedules, and obtain pertinent patient information as needed.
• Organizes and prepares exam rooms and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment, based on department need.
• Greets patients and visitors and responds to routine requests for information, reports or film loans.
• Promptly answers telephone, screens calls, schedules patient appointments, and takes messages, if department needs require.
• Acts as a liaison between ordering physician, radiologist, and technologist.
• Provides radiology reports and/or radiographic images to staff, physicians, patients and/or family upon request.
• Files, retrieves, and releases health information records and films.
• Compiles film jackets/discs and completes required forms/documentation.
• Documents requested information and promptly communicates observations, concerns, and needs of the patient with physicians and other members of the health care team.
• Completes routine maintenance and quality monitoring of imaging equipment using appropriate technique when cleaning, sterilizing and caring for instruments and other equipment, based on department need.
• Assists with the screening and documentation of MRI implants based on department need.
• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
• Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
