About The Position

The Imaging Assistant acts as the department receptionist, handling telephone inquiries, accommodating medical staff and the public in making appointments for medical imaging procedures. This role also involves assisting patients in preparation for procedures, confirming insurance coverages and benefits, and coordinating patient information with other hospital departments. The position requires knowledge of order communications systems and remote charge entry systems, as well as maintaining competencies and regulatory compliance. The assistant is responsible for maintaining the order and cleanliness of their assigned area, stocking supplies, and obtaining clarification on patient orders. They will also obtain necessary signatures on forms, perform clerical duties, review patient packets and logs for accuracy, and sort/chart patient reports.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Able to file alphabetically
  • Knowledge of insurance and billing procedures.
  • Able to organize and maintain good follow-up
  • Above average computer skills with knowledge of various software applications, including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, WordPerfect and Excel
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Working knowledge of basic office and clerical skills
  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching above shoulders, sitting, walking inclines and declines, standing, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive hand motions.
  • Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally lift boxes and/or supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Category 3 for potential exposure to blood/body fluids. Does not require the performance of procedures or other tasks in the work routine that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, and the assisting in cases of emergency medical care or first aid is not a requirement of employment. Tasks that involve handling of implements or utensils, use of the public or shared bathroom facilities, telephones, and personal contacts such as handshaking, are all considered Category 3 tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as department receptionist, answers all the telephone inquiries in a timely, courteous and professional manner, accommodate medical staff and the public in making appointments for medical imaging procedures.
  • Assists patients in preparation for procedures.
  • Confirm insurance coverages and benefits for all patients.
  • Coordinates patient information with other hospital departments.
  • Knows order communications systems, knows remote charge entry system.
  • Maintains and meets expectations on time for all competencies, license, certifications and education requirements as outlined by local administration, Adventist Health AH, The Joint Commission TJC, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services CMS, and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains mammography reporting system in conjunction with the mammography technologists to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Maintains order and cleanliness of assigned area of department. Stocks and replenishes supplies.
  • Obtains clarification on patient orders when necessary.
  • Obtains signatures of patient or responsible party on required forms, verbal permission obtained when necessary and note on form with two witnesses.
  • Performs miscellaneous clerical duties such as typing, filing and correspondence, etc.
  • Reviews patient packet (order/RIS paperwork) for accuracy.
  • Reviews the daily log and appointment book for accuracy.
  • Sorts and charts patient reports and files.
  • Willingly performs other duties and innovations as assigned.
