Under general supervision, performs patient preparations and screening processes, as well as transporting patients for the department. This role requires providing health care services to all age groups and demonstrating competence in interpersonal relationships. The Imaging Assistant utilizes the Hospital Information System (HIS), Radiology Information System (RIS), and PACS. They are responsible for maintaining a safe working environment by ensuring gurneys are locked, side rails are up as indicated, keeping the unit free of hazards, adhering to infection prevention guidelines, and properly disposing of infectious waste. The role involves speaking up about safety risks, following personal protection and environmental safety rules, and understanding their role in medication security. Adherence to infection prevention guidelines includes proper hand washing, following isolation policies, and proper disposal of infectious waste. The Imaging Assistant transports and moves patients using appropriate body mechanics and safety precautions, demonstrating knowledge of safe patient handling devices. They follow the Universal Protocol by using two patient identifiers and appropriate hand-off communication techniques (SBAR). The role includes assisting outpatients, ensuring patient comfort and confidentiality, providing coverage for clerical staff when needed, and understanding their role in emergency and disaster plans. They are also responsible for cleaning and maintaining wheelchairs and gurneys, and meeting patient safety needs while using equipment safely. Department-specific duties include answering the telephone, scheduling and confirming appointments, preparing patient paperwork, ordering and stocking supplies, assisting technologists with cleaning and preparing exam rooms, restocking linen and patient care supplies, answering the telephone courteously, following cleaning and disinfection policies, transporting specimens, utilizing MRI safety at all times (including watching the MRI safety video), providing supportive care during scans, attending to difficult/claustrophobic patients, and screening visitors and employees entering the 5 Gauss line for ferromagnetic materials and other items.
