About The Position

In coordination with the Branch Manager, leads and oversees the International Investment Advisory (IIA) Branch which includes locations in Toronto, Cayman and Bahamas and multiple jurisdictions in Latin America, Central America and the Caribbean, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. This is a dynamic role assisting the Branch Manager in areas of Advisor Coaching, adoption and delivery of Total Wealth solutions, problem solving, branch sales and marketing initiatives. Along with, supporting growth in branch assets and revenue, recruiting, regulatory compliance and oversight.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge and experience in the management of wealth advisory, securities regulations, risk management and compliance.
  • Superior leadership and management skills and an ability to work closely and collaboratively.
  • Strong knowledge of and demonstrated success in sales management techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a strategic plan.
  • Strong capability in evaluating, designing, and leading the implementation of operational processes.
  • Strong knowledge of the regulatory environment applicable to the investment management industry.
  • Understanding of the operational and technological platforms and systems underlying the business and how they support the delivery, distribution and client experience.
  • Canadian Securities Course and Conduct & Practices Handbook Examinations.
  • Branch Managers Examination & Options Supervisory Course.
  • Sales and/or management experience in financial services.
  • Two years of experience as a Registered Representative (required for regulatory approval as a Branch Manager).

Nice To Haves

  • Post-graduate business degree (e.g. MBA) and CFA (or equivalent experience) an asset.
  • Knowledge of Spanish AND/OR Portuguese preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Manage and upholds the compliance and regulatory standards of the firm in the Branch, to ensure minimal financial exposure to the firm.
  • Ensures client complaints, claims, legal actions and regulatory reviews, examinations and investigations are escalated to the Branch Manager and assist to ensure they are handled effectively and corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Manages compliance within the branch including all daily supervision activities as well as document signing and approvals, trade exception overrides and approvals, Account opening approvals, cheque signing, and payables approvals.
  • Assist the Branch Manager in the continued implementation and adoption of our Total Wealth Strategy.
  • Partner with Branch Manager and Branch Administrator to guide and support staffing in the branch as it relates to Advisor Team’s needs.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies for the branch that align with our Firm’s growth strategy and culture.
  • Act as a sounding board for experienced and developing advisors complimented by coaching and providing advice and perspective on all things relevant to the Advisor’s business and growth objectives.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Operates in Canada and multiple international jurisdictions.
  • Supports the leadership in managing a branch of 100+ employees.
  • Assists in the management of a business line Profit & Loss statement.
