The unit cares for adult and pediatric patients over age 15 with conditions and procedures including neurosurgeries, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, general surgery, and cancer-specific surgeries. Success in this collaborative, team-oriented environment requires strong critical thinking, a willingness to help others, and a positive attitude. The role involves 12-hour night shifts, with 36 guaranteed hours per week. Nurses work collaboratively with attending and student providers, including fellows and residents. Two shifts of unit-specific orientation are provided. Nurses must pass a required orientation exam with a score of at least 90% to continue in the role. Navy blue scrubs are required, and artificial nails are prohibited. Nurses may be asked to float to inpatient units other than maternity and NICU.
