About The Position

University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking exceptional Registered Nurses (RNs) to join their nursing team. UMMC, a Magnet-designated Academic Medical Center, offers the opportunity to enhance skills and experience. Located in downtown Baltimore, UMMC is the flagship academic medical center of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS). The Shock Trauma Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is a unique 12-bed, Phase 1 unit operating 24/7. It primarily serves adult patients (and some adolescents) needing post-operative care, with a specialization in traumatic injury management. In addition to recovery and procedural care, the team manages overflow from the Trauma Resuscitation Unit to ensure trauma patient admission capacity. This team adheres to American Society of Peri-Anesthesia Nurse (ASPAN) Standards and maintains educational competencies in peri-anesthesia, trauma, and critical care, serving approximately 20 surgical/medical services. Nurses on this team should be passionate, energetic, and highly capable professionals adept at interdisciplinary collaboration, seeking a challenging and dynamic clinical setting. Requirements

  • Currently licensed as an RN in the state of Maryland or eligible to practice under a compact license.
  • Minimum 2 years ICU experience required (Surgical/Trauma ICU preferred).
  • Current BLS & ACLS required for hire.
  • Must be flexible, adaptable and able to critically think through complex patient scenarios.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred (Associates Nurses with at least 2+ years of experience).

Responsibilities

  • Provide post-operative care specializing in traumatic injury management.
  • Accept overflow from the Trauma Resuscitation Unit when needed.
  • Maintain education and competency expectations across peri-anesthesia, trauma, and critical care specialties.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Care for primarily adult patients (some adolescents) requiring post-operative care.
