About The Position

The Ice Cream Supervisor will oversee daily operations of our novelty ice cream production lines, ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality manufacturing. This role is pivotal in managing staff, coordinating production schedules, and maintaining compliance with food safety standards. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with extruded novelties, automated packaging systems, and dairy-based product lines. Experience with a start-up is a plus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in food manufacturing, preferably dairy or frozen desserts.
  • Proficient in or knowledgeable of using a variety of computer software applications, especially Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and CMMS software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective prioritizing, organizing, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, execute plans, strategies, and achieve desired results.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to achieve defined goals on time.
  • Experience solving problems, analyzing information, highlighting relevant information, and suggesting appropriate actions.

  • Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to regularly perform heavy physical work outdoors in all weather conditions and with exposure to potentially hazardous conditions.
  • Excessive ascending and descending of ladders and stairs using feet and legs and hands and arms regularly. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances continuously.
  • Repetitive motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and fingers continuously.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist regularly.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to rest on the knee or knees.
  • Crouching: Regularly bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine continuously.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas using the spoken word. Includes activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Lifting, up to 100lbs occasionally, up to 50lbs regularly.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all stages of ice cream production including mixing, aging, freezing, filling, and packaging.
  • Monitor novelty product lines (e.g., extruded novelties, stick products) for quality and consistency.
  • Coordinate with R&D and QA teams to implement new flavors and product improvements.
  • Lead, train, and mentor production staff to ensure a skilled and motivated workforce.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Enforce food safety protocols (HACCP, SQF, FDA) and conduct regular audits.
  • Ensure all products meet internal and regulatory quality standards.
  • Address deviations and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Oversee and ensure execution of Clean-in-Place (CIP) processes for mix systems, pasteurizers, freezers, and filling equipment to support sanitation and production readiness.
  • Ensure effective cleaning during product and allergen changeovers, verifying compliance with food safety standards, chemical concentrations, and sanitation procedures.
  • Collaborate with sanitation, quality, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot CIP issues, maintain documentation, and drive continuous improvement in cleaning effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Oversee operation and maintenance of high-speed production equipment.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Manage raw material and finished goods inventory.
  • Collaborate with logistics to ensure timely distribution and delivery.
  • Track production KPIs including yield, downtime, and labor efficiency.
  • Prepare daily and weekly reports for plant leadership.
