About The Position

Shums Coda Associates, Inc. is a privately held company providing professional Building and Safety Consulting Services to jurisdictions to verify conformance with Building Codes. We are seeking full-time Building Inspectors II and III for our clients in the Denver Metro Area, CO. Building Inspectors are considered highly skilled in performing inspections of both commercial and residential projects, enforcing codes and regulations in a broad range of building with varied relevant code sets. The work requires independence, discretion, and finesse.

Requirements

  • ICC Residential and Commercial Building Inspector Certifications
  • 2+ years of experience working as an inspector in a jurisdiction.
  • Working knowledge of the International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Mechanical Code, International Plumbing Code, and the National Electrical Code.
  • Working knowledge of current construction methods, materials, tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Ability to detect hazards and violations and recommend corrective measures during field inspection work.
  • Ability to enforce regulations with firmness, consistency, tact and courtesy in field inspection work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to remain calm, objective, and impartial under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, contractors, and the general public.
  • Competent use of laptop, word processing and inspection software.
  • Must have a high school diploma.
  • Must have a valid Driver License.
  • Must successfully complete standard background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrician License
  • Some college is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Performing the full scope of assigned duties as a journey level class.
  • Making inspections, performing plan checks and enforcing codes and regulations in a broad range of building and related codes.
  • Exercising independence and discretion in both field inspections and plan checks.
  • Performing the full scope of assigned duties as an advanced journey level class.
  • Making inspections as outlined in the Inspector I and II classifications.
  • Performing architectural plan checks and enforcing codes and regulations in a broad range of building and related codes.
  • Exercising independence and discretion in administrative support, field inspections and plans examination.
