SHINE Technologies LLCJanesville, WI
$140,000 - $170,000Onsite

About The Position

The Instruments and Controls (I&C) / Electrical Engineering Manager oversees the design, development, procurement, and testing of the systems used to control and monitor processes and to provide power for the SHINE medical isotope production facility. Working under the direction of the Director of Engineering, the I&C/Electrical Manager leads a team of I&C and electrical engineers responsible for control strategies, control system hardware and software, instrument selection, and electrical power distribution for the molybdenum-99 production facility, which is an NRC-regulated facility. This is a leadership role well suited to an engineer who is comfortable owning technical decisions while developing others to do the same. SHINE engineers are designing systems that will produce isotopes to help diagnose heart disease, treat cancer, and take us another step closer to clean energy. This is an onsite position located in Janesville, WI.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience; advanced education and/or related certifications are a plus. BS in Electrical Engineering is desirable.
  • Ten (10) plus years’ experience in instruments and controls or a related discipline, preferably leading an engineering team with responsibility for meeting strict deadlines.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, coach, and inspire a group of highly skilled engineers in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and activities, prioritizing them in a way that contributes most to Company success, including working knowledge of Agile and Waterfall style project management.
  • Working knowledge of electrical power distribution for normal and uninterruptible power for commercial level power systems (e.g., 120VAC, 480V 3 phase, DC).
  • Confidence to make decisions on technical issues and the aptitude to push decision making down to the responsible engineers.
  • Excellent written communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment such as the nuclear power industry or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, develop, and lead a team of highly skilled I&C and electrical engineers focused on the control systems, instruments, and power supply design and installation for the SHINE molybdenum-99 production plant.
  • Mentor engineers in the technology, decision making, and ownership of the I&C equipment for which they are responsible.
  • Determine and document the safety classification of I&C and electrical equipment, and ensure designs satisfy the applicable independence, physical separation, redundancy, and single-failure criteria for safety-related and safety-significant functions.
  • Own design change control and configuration management for I&C and electrical systems, including evaluation of proposed changes against the licensing basis and routing changes that require prior regulatory approval through the licensing organization.
  • Oversee software quality assurance for digital I&C, including verification and validation, configuration control of firmware and application software, and factory and site acceptance testing of vendor-supplied software.
  • Evaluate I&C and electrical deviations, failures, and vendor notifications for reportability, and support the corrective action program through cause evaluation, corrective action ownership, and operating experience review.
  • Lead the interfaces between the I&C team and its stakeholders, collaborating with project managers and other functional managers to develop coherent project requirements, plans, schedules, and budgets aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Maintain the team budget and schedule, keeping a detailed plan that accurately predicts milestones and resource loading.
  • Drive decisions on vendor requests, changes, and updates to equipment and programming.
  • Oversee the development of digital and analog control systems, including distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and data acquisition systems (DAQ), by performing reviews of vendor deliverables. Some control systems will reside in radiation areas.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines to select instruments that measure process variables in the process systems in the SHINE facility.
  • Oversee and update instrument specifications, calculations, and test plans to support the design, new construction, testing, commissioning, in-field troubleshooting, and operation of the future SHINE medical isotope production facility.
  • Work with vendors and construction to oversee installation of systems that provide power to plant equipment via the normal power supply and the uninterruptible power supply.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of instrument and electrical cable routing, conduit and raceway design, installation drawings, and loop diagrams.
  • Assist in the commissioning, turnover to Operations, and subsequent support of I&C and electrical systems.
  • Work with the licensing team to maintain the accuracy of the I&C and electrical licensing basis.
