About The Position

WECTEC Staffing Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Westinghouse Electric Company LLC, is seeking an I&C Engineer with 8+ years of nuclear plant experience. This is a contract position where the engineer will report to the Manager of Operating Plants Electrical Engineering and will work remotely. The I&C Principal Engineer leads the technical evaluation, design, and implementation of plant uprate initiatives to safely increase generation capacity and improve operational efficiency. This role requires expertise in system performance, electrical engineering analysis, and instrumentation and control, including advanced power system modeling and instrumentation calculations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and project goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline
  • Minimum 8–15 years of relevant experience in power generation or heavy industry
  • Demonstrated experience with power system analysis and ETAP modeling
  • Demonstrated experience with instrumentation calculations and transmitter applications
  • Knowledge of plant electrical and I&C systems
  • Demonstrated technical leadership on complex engineering projects
  • Experience with plant uprates or major capacity increases
  • Expertise in instrument uncertainty, setpoint methodologies, and flow measurement
  • Nuclear industry experience (EPU, MUR, or similar uprates)
  • Familiarity with control systems and process automation platforms
  • US Citizen or permanent resident located in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering efforts for plant uprate projects, including feasibility studies, system evaluations, and detailed design.
  • Be the primary technical authority on uprate strategies, methodologies, and system impacts.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship across electrical and instrumentation engineering disciplines.
  • Perform and review instrumentation calculations to ensure accuracy and reliability under uprated plant conditions, including transmitter sizing and selection, measurement range determination, process variable scaling, loop accuracy, and environmental evaluations.
  • Lead technical reviews of transmitter applications and installations, ensuring proper selection of sensing technologies, material compatibility, adequate response time, and compliance with design codes and plant standards.
  • Evaluate and validate flow measurement calculations, including orifice, venturi, and nozzle sizing, flow coefficient considerations, and the impact of increased flow rates.
  • Review and approve instrument setpoints and scaling changes required for uprate operation, ensuring proper margin to design limits and alignment with safety analyses.
  • Support control system impact evaluations, including instrument loop response and stability, interaction with control logic, and identification of required tuning or strategy adjustments.
  • Provide oversight for instrumentation documentation, including data sheets, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, calibration procedures, and design change packages.
  • Develop and review engineering calculations, analyses, and design modifications.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Ensure scope, schedule, and budget objectives are met.
  • Evaluate plant systems across disciplines (thermal, electrical, mechanical, I&C).
  • Identify required upgrades for uprate implementation.
  • Perform integrated system impact assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks (NRC, FERC, NERC, IEEE).
  • Support licensing submittments and regulatory interactions.
  • Maintain thorough, auditable engineering documentation.
  • Identify risks related to uprate and system modifications.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical and instrumentation safety requirements.
  • Promote strong safety culture and engineering rigor.
