About The Position

The University of New Mexico–Gallup invites applications for a full-time, nine-month (9-month) faculty position to co-teach the basic skills component in collaboration with a content-area nursing faculty member and to contextualize English and Math skills development within the nursing program. This position is subject to the availability of funding and continued institutional need and may be renewed annually based on programmatic priorities and funding support. Faculty responsibilities include supporting students in mathematics, language development, and content comprehension; providing individual and group tutoring; contributing to curriculum development; offering instructional feedback; and conducting regular assessments of student learning outcomes. UNM-Gallup is one of four branch community colleges of the University of New Mexico and serves approximately 2200 students. Located in Gallup NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, UNM-Gallup is situated in the Four Corners region and near the Navajo Nation, Zuni Pueblo and Hopi Reservation. The city of Gallup has a population of 22,000 and the surrounding areas provide an abundance of outdoor recreational activities, various museums and extraordinary cultural vibrancy, while maintaining a small-town feel. UNM-Gallup serves a hugely diverse student population with 100+ full time and part-time faculty members. We are fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission offering Associate degrees, selected Bachelor’s degrees, Career Technical Education certificate programs, and adult basic education (ABE/GED), workforce training and personal enrichment courses. UNM-Gallup serves multiple high school populations including McKinley Academy, Middle College High School and the Center for Career and Technical Education. It is an exciting time to join our faculty as we are expanding our programs, engaging with our community, establishing multiple endowments and grant opportunities while hiring a substantial cohort of new faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to teach an equivalent of a 27 credit hour course load, per year, focused on structuring and supporting literacy, math, and comprehension within the content classroom, following the I-BEST teaching model in the Nursing Program, participate in monthly Division meetings and execute other relevant duties as agreed upon in conjunction with the division chair in an annual faculty-chair agreement.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in one of the following areas: Adult/Developmental Education, English, Math, Health Sciences or related field
  • Two (2) years of adult teaching experience or one (1) year teaching development English or Math

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Adult/Developmental Education, English, Math Health Sciences.
  • Doctorate or Terminal Degree in one of the following areas: Adult/ Developmental Education, English, Math, Health Science.
  • Two years teaching experience in adult basic education, health, math, science or literacy, or related field – including at the community college level or similar institution.
  • One year’s experience in the Allied Health field.
  • Experience in working closely with instructors to contextualize instruction.
  • Ability to team-teach, or I-BEST experience, IET (Integrated Education and Training), or other team-teaching model experience
  • Experience with various computer applications, including online education/learning platforms.
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
