About The Position

The Hyperbaric Technician will demonstrate a working knowledge of the policies and procedures of Hyperbaric Medicine. They will ascertain that the patient's diagnosis is appropriate for HBO Therapy and implement the physician's orders as indicated by the patient's treatment plan. The technician will educate patients and/or their families about the benefits, risks, contraindications, and safety issues of hyperbaric oxygen therapy prior to treatment. Responsibilities include performing blood glucose monitoring, inspecting patients for safety adherence before treatments, performing HBO treatments and monitoring patients during therapy, performing dressing changes and/or wound care within the scope of practice, and taking serial photographs of wounds for progress reporting. The technician will also evaluate patient outcomes, consult with the hyperbaric physician regarding adverse reactions, document treatment notes, and maintain patient records. Additional duties include completing treatment charges, performing quality control on glucometers, cleaning and maintaining equipment, participating in quality improvement duties and chart audits, answering telephone inquiries, scheduling patient treatments, performing marketing duties, conducting inventory checks, maintaining supply records, checking backup air and oxygen supplies, performing data entry into the Wound Center database, and orienting new employees. The technician will also participate in New Patient Reviews to assess for HBO indicators, maintain a safe environment, follow all hospital policies, maintain a professional appearance and manner, interact courteously with patients and staff, report unusual occurrences, and maintain strict patient and staff confidentiality. Compliance with NHC and client hospital policies regarding legal and regulatory compliance, including HIPAA, is essential. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must be credentialed or licensed in the state where working
Minimum of two (2) years experience in healthcare is required.
Current Florida state license or certification is required in one of the following areas: National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician, Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN), Registered Nurse, Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Hyperbaric Technologist, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or equivalent, Surgical Technologist.

Nice To Haves

Wound, Hyperbaric, or critical care experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate a working knowledge of the policies and procedures of Hyperbaric Medicine.
Ascertain that the patient's diagnosis is one of the appropriate approved disorders for HBO Therapy, and that the said diagnosis is clearly entered on the patient's charts/records.
Implement the physician's orders as indicated by the patient's treatment plan.
Educate patient and/or patient's family as to the benefits, risks, contraindications, and safety issues of hyperbaric oxygen therapy prior to treatment.
Perform blood glucose monitoring as ordered and indicated by patient diagnosis.
Inspect the patient prior to the commencement of each HBO treatment to ensure all safety standards are being adhered to, i.e. 100% cotton attire, no makeup, no hairspray, etc.
Perform the HBO treatment and monitor the patient during therapy.
Perform dressing changes and/or wound care within scope of practice, as ordered and participate in clinic when HBO volumes are below par.
Take serial photographs of the wound for reporting of the patient's progress.
Evaluate the patient outcome and meet with the manager and the hyperbaric physician to discuss patient treatment and adjust treatment as necessary.
Consult with hyperbaric physician regarding any adverse reactions.
Document treatment notes and maintain patient treatment/diagnostic records.
Complete the patient's treatment charges, if required.
Perform quality control daily on department glucometer, or as required by policy.
Clean and maintain the equipment according to infection control standards.
Maintain continuous quality improvement duties and chart audits.
Answer telephone inquiries and schedule patient treatment times.
Perform marketing duties as needed, intra- and interdepartmental.
Perform an inventory check, and maintain a record of supplies and laundry items.
Maintain equipment and check backup air and oxygen supplies on a daily basis.
Perform data entry into Wound Center database and provide reports as requested by the Program Director.
Orient new employees as necessary.
Participate in New Patient Reviews to assess for HBO indicators.
Maintain safe environment and follow all Hospital and NHC policies and procedures.
Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times.
Interact with patients, family members, visitors and staff in a courteous manner, whether by phone or in person.
Report all unusual occurrences and issues to the Program Director.
Maintain strict patient and staff confidentiality.
Observe and comply with NHC's and, where applicable, a client hospital's policies and procedures, in either case, related to legal and regulatory compliance, including, but not limited to, compliance with the Federal Trade Commission's Red Flag Rules pertaining to identify theft detection and mitigation, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and subsequent federal and state legislation and regulations pertaining to the use, confidentiality, privacy, security and protection of patient health information (PHI) and electronic PHI; and any other state or federal law or regulation which pertains to the reduction and/or elimination of waste, or fraud and abuse in connection with the delivery of health care items or services.
