About The Position

Hydrovac Operators are skilled laborers who operate machinery designed to excavate and expose underground utilities safely. The role requires precision and expertise in equipment operation, safety protocols, and efficient excavation practices. Operators complete hydro excavation projects such as utility line exposure, debris removal, slot trenching, and digging, and may supervise Hydrovac Laborers to support employee skill development. Requirements

• Class A CDL with Air Brake and Tanker endorsements.
• At least 1 year of related experience or training.
• Possess, or be able to obtain within two weeks of employment, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License.
• Pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and a pre-employment drug screen.
• Knowledge of basic underground utilities.
• Proficiency and safety in operating heavy equipment and machinery.
• Ability to use time and equipment efficiently to complete projects on time.
• Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment.
• Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of heavy vehicle and equipment operation, maintenance, and repair.
• Ability to read maps and prints.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Ability to repeatedly lift vacuum piping connections.
• Willingness and ability to learn additional skills.

Responsibilities

• Complete hydro excavation projects, including utility line exposure, debris removal, slot trenching, and digging.
• Operate Hydrovac trucks and equipment safely and professionally.
• Supervise Hydrovac Laborers to support employee skill development.
• Set up and inspect grounding and/or bonding procedures for Hydrovac operation.
• Complete required paperwork properly and within established timelines.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and routine maintenance.
• Perform daily vacuum excavation tasks, including potholing existing underground utilities for HDD work.
• Perform pole holes, anchors, and trench work for company divisions.
• Expose existing underground utilities for new placement and maintenance work.
