Kleinschmidt is hiring an entry-level Hydrologic & Hydraulic Staff Engineer to support H&H analysis and modeling for hydropower and river restoration projects. The position is based in Portland, Oregon, with consideration for other locations where Kleinschmidt has an existing office. The work environment is hybrid, with employees working from the office and remotely. Preference is given to candidates available to work in the office at least three days per week; remote applicants with relevant experience will also be considered. The engineer will work directly with mid-level and senior staff across project delivery, from conceptual designs through issued-for-bid construction drawings. Projects involve close collaboration with scientists, data analysts, engineers, and licensing experts to develop solutions for renewable energy projects. Work may provide specialized experience in floodplain management, dam breach and hazard assessments, dam decommissioning or removal, hydropower feasibility, and fish passage engineering. Project tasks include site visits, field data collection, engineering calculations and analysis, design using H&H modeling software, GIS spatial analysis or data processing, reviewing and applying hydraulic modeling results, technical report writing, and participating in meetings with clients and other stakeholders. Kleinschmidt describes itself as an employee-owned consulting firm specializing in hydropower, renewable energy, water resources, and the natural environment, with an emphasis on technical excellence, continuous learning, and professional development. The salary range is $85,000–$95,000 per year, based on experience. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire; employer-sponsored work authorization is not available now or in the future. Travel is required, and applicants must have a valid driver's license.
