OVERVIEW Vertex is currently accepting applications for hydrogeologists / environmental consultants to join our team in Sherwood Park or Calgary, Alberta. This is a great opportunity to work with a dynamic group of hydrogeologists, geoscientists, engineers, technicians, and support staff on hydrogeology projects across western Canada. Vertex is an exciting place to learn and to advance your career in hydrogeology and contaminated sites. Preference will be given to individuals currently residing in Alberta or Saskatchewan.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in hydrogeology, geology, geological engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science or a related discipline
  • Professional designation (or eligible) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or Saskatchewan (APEGS)
  • At least 3 years of relevant consulting and/or industry experience in hydrogeology (direct experience in Alberta is considered an asset)
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding processes and components of hydrogeology
  • Excited to take on a primarily field-based role with some office and reporting support for the first two to five years at Vertex
  • A strong work ethic with excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask several project components, including field program coordination, materials and equipment procurement, field execution, and data management
  • Experience with various drilling technologies, soil and groundwater sampling and monitoring/pumping well design/installation
  • Experience in collecting hydrogeological data using water level meters, data loggers, EC meters, submersible pumps, to support hydrogeological assessments
  • Experience in conducting slug tests including data upload and interpretation (aquifer pump test experience is considered an asset)
  • Must be able to work in remote areas during all seasons for (possibly) extended periods of time
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada with no restrictions
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative team environment, and to follow directions while able to provide constructive feedback

Nice To Haves

  • direct experience in Alberta is considered an asset
  • aquifer pump test experience is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Assist/lead in borehole drilling, lithologic logging, soil sampling and groundwater monitoring/pumping well design and installation
  • Conduct groundwater monitoring and sampling programs
  • Assist in conducting single well response (slug) tests, and aquifer pumping tests
  • Conduct hydrogeological data QA/QC and interpretation in support of table and technical report preparation
  • Provide support in the preparation of proposals (scope development and cost estimates) and reports
  • Demonstrate willingness to travel and participate in field work (primarily within western Canada) and the ability to adapt to unpredictable and/or inclement field conditions and changing schedules
  • Conduct work/projects in line with Vertex’s Health and Safety standards
