About The Position

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Hydroelectric Power Maintenance Technician is responsible for hands-on troubleshooting, maintenance, repairs, and operation of hydro turbine/generator systems, high voltage transmission, and related equipment.

Requirements

  • Two- or four-year degree in E.E. or E.E.T. or related field experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be willing and able to travel and stay overnight for Employer business purposes such as training, corporate meetings.
  • High voltage transmission training and experience.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, hydraulic, civil, and mechanical drawings & schematics.
  • Coherent oral and legible written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to learn and use Windows-based software, including MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to learn and use PI Historian and IFS computer programs as applicable to the position.
  • Knowledge of applicable mechanical and electrical standards such as OSHA, NFPA, National Electric Safety Code, and ASME Industry Standards.
  • Possess mechanical ability to disassemble and assemble complex machinery.
  • High voltage transmission training and experience.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Knowledge of applicable OSHA safety standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with repair and maintenance of hydro turbine/generator systems and related equipment is preferred as follows: electrical (including PLC’s), mechanical, hydraulic, and the ability to perform related essential functions of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Practice safe work habits and follow Employer safety policies and procedures. Immediately identify hazardous conditions and/or act upon incorrect procedures when witnessed and, if necessary, stop the work or procedure.
  • Practice sound, approved environmental principles and follow Employer environmental policies and procedures. Immediately act upon incorrect procedures when identified, and if necessary, stop the work or procedure.
  • Follow approved Employer security policies and procedures.
  • Perform duties to ensure compliance with all operational requirements and procedures.
  • Identify and repair, as necessary, station hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems including analytical problem solving/minor troubleshooting.
  • Work harmoniously with contracted maintenance personnel in performance of operation, construction, and maintenance projects consistent with provisions within the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Be available, as necessary, for after hour “call ins” as per a rotating “on call” schedule.
  • Maintain basic inventory control on spare parts and equipment.
  • Monitor and report on equipment quality issues per factory requirements and Employer specifications from disassembly to commissioning.
  • Act as a Hydroelectric Power Technician-Operator to temporarily fill vacancies first on a voluntary basis or second by inverse order of seniority among qualified employees for a mutually agreed upon timeframe.
  • Utilize corporate enterprise resource program (IFS) to perform various business duties as assigned, such as: Identify equipment issues and create IFS fault reports for screening and scheduling, Document as found /as left conditions, repair notes, and post maintenance testing on corrective & preventive maintenance IFS work orders, Time Entry, Travel Expense Entry.
  • Ship and Receive equipment.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and nights when scheduled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
