The primary function of the apprentice technician is to learn through classes and hands on training how to perform routine mechanical repairs on hydraulic pumps & motors. This role involves learning safety practices, shop operations, and the use of various shop equipment and tooling. The apprentice will also gain exposure to basic business concepts within the service department and learn to complete proper service documentation, including time entry, service reports, part order forms, and core/warranty tags. Additionally, the apprentice will utilize Caterpillar information systems for diagnostics, troubleshooting, assembly/disassembly, and parts ordering, learning logical troubleshooting procedures from various sources. The role requires the use of hand and power tools for repairs, disassembly, reassembly, and testing of construction equipment, as well as assisting other technicians with larger repairs.
