This position supports the mission of the Office of the Military at the Battle Born Youth Challenge Academy by helping maintain a safe, comfortable, and fully operational environment for youth participants and staff in the scenic Carlin, Nevada area. The incumbent performs skilled installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) systems and equipment. Responsibilities include conducting preventive maintenance on furnaces, chillers, air handlers, refrigeration units, and related components such as motors, pumps, fans, and control systems; inspecting equipment to ensure proper operation; monitoring system performance; maintaining occupant comfort; and responding promptly to maintenance emergencies. The position diagnoses equipment malfunctions, repairs and modifies HVACR systems by replacing pipes, valves, controls, and electrical components using brazing, soldering, pipefitting, and electrical repair techniques; repairs burner assemblies; recovers and recharges refrigerants; and tests system functionality using specialized tools and diagnostic instruments. The incumbent also installs new equipment and components, including thermostats and insulation, to improve system performance and energy efficiency. In support of the Academy's mission, the position serves as a positive role model by mentoring youth participants, sharing knowledge of HVACR systems, and fostering practical skill development. Performs related duties as assigned to support the continued success of the Youth Challenge Program and maintain a safe, clean, and efficient campus.
