The HVAC Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems across the university campus. This role ensures all systems operate efficiently and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards to maintain a comfortable and safe environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in HVAC preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in HVAC installation and maintenance, preferably in a commercial or institutional setting.
  • Valid HVAC certification (EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification required).
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems in academic buildings, residence halls, laboratories, dining areas, and administrative facilities.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment including air handlers, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and ductwork.
  • Diagnose HVAC/R issues and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical malfunctions.
  • Monitor and adjust building automation systems (BAS) to optimize performance and energy efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, system performance, and equipment inventory.
  • Respond promptly to service requests and emergency calls related to heating, cooling, or air quality issues.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating HVAC-related renovation and construction projects.
  • Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and other university departments as needed.
  • Keep work areas clean and safe; adhere to university policies and OSHA regulations.
