About The Position

RQ Construction is a full-service Design-Build company, headquartered in Carlsbad, CA, with secondary support operations located in Jacksonville, FL. We offer management of projects throughout the United States, with our field operations' team members who work on location for each of our projects. We currently have a backlog of work of $1B in CA, WA, VA, NC, SC, FL and also Guantanamo Cuba and Puerto Rico. We specialize in fast-track projects in new commercial construction with a primary focus in the Department of Defense market. RQ is seeking an experienced HVAC Start-Up Technician to support large commercial and mechanical construction projects. This role is ideal for a highly skilled commercial HVAC technician with strong troubleshooting experience working on large tonnage equipment, chillers, boilers, hydronic systems, and mechanical start-up operations. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience diagnosing, repairing, starting up, and commissioning commercial HVAC systems in construction, industrial, government, healthcare, or mission critical environments.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of commercial HVAC service/start-up experience
  • Strong troubleshooting experience with large commercial HVAC systems
  • Experience working on chillers, boilers, large RTUs, and hydronic systems required
  • Experience replacing compressors and diagnosing refrigeration/electrical issues required
  • EPA 608 Certification required
  • OSHA 10 Certification required (or ability to obtain)

Nice To Haves

  • Factory certifications preferred
  • Military, industrial, healthcare, or large commercial project experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform start-up, testing, troubleshooting, and operational verification of commercial HVAC systems
  • Service and troubleshoot large commercial equipment including: 50+ ton RTUs, Air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, Boilers, Pumps and hydronic systems, Hot water systems, Cooling towers
  • Perform compressor replacements, refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, and electrical troubleshooting
  • Support commissioning and functional performance testing activities
  • Work directly with project teams, subcontractors, and equipment manufacturers to resolve system issues
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and control sequences
  • Document testing activities, deficiencies, and corrective actions
