About The Position

The City of Dallas is seeking an HVAC Technician III to install, maintain, and repair complex refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. This role involves troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing commercial and/or residential HVAC systems. The HVAC Technician III will also serve as a lead for Technicians I and II, providing knowledge transfer and acting as a backup to the Supervisor. This position is crucial for ensuring a comfortable climate in City of Dallas facilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years of experience working with air conditioning, heating and/or refrigeration repair.
  • Three (3) years of experience working with five (5) ton (or above) systems.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • Environmental Protection Agency Certification (EPA – 608 Universal Certification).
  • Expert knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, equipment, and repair tools.
  • Advanced ability to operate hand and portable power tools used in the installation and repair of HVAC systems.
  • Expertise in reading, writing, and comprehending technical descriptions and plans.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical and mechanical codes related to HVAC installation and repairs.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to develop written instructions and train more junior Technicians.
  • Skill in leading a team and maintaining effective relationships.
  • Completed Vocational Program and four (4) years of relevant experience, in addition to the EPA Certificate will meet the education and experience requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Performs mechanical labor, repair, and maintenance work for City of Dallas HVAC equipment and related systems.
  • Troubleshoots, evaluates, and checks electrical components and pneumatic controls on HVAC refrigeration equipment.
  • Performs non-routine preventive and maintenance work on HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  • Installs and repairs small electric motors used in forced air systems, drinking fountains, refrigerators, freezers, and ice machines.
  • Trains HVAC Apprentices, Technicians I and II, and serves as a lead on complex HVAC projects.
  • Responds to emergency situations, adjusts building temperatures, and performs jobs requiring elevated expertise.
  • Maintains records of work orders and oversees timesheets.
  • Monitors supplies and equipment, makes purchases, and determines needs.
  • Serves as a backup to Supervisor in their absence.
  • Performs other trades work as needed or assigned.
