About The Position

Under the supervision of the Manager of Facilities, the HVAC supervisor performs skilled trade-level (journeyman) repair and maintenance on refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilation and air handling equipment. Required to install, maintain and repair electric, electronic and pneumatic controls systems with their supporting machinery, heating/air-conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Universal EPA Certification
  • Journeyman level HVAC licensure
  • Five (5) years of experience in HVCR repair and maintenance for large building application or commercial HVAC equipment and systems
  • A valid Tennessee driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Tennessee Certification as a licensed HVAC mechanic and/or refrigeration technician.
  • Degree/certification from an accredited college of technology specializing in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration.
  • Master mechanical license
  • Boiler maintenance experience
  • Refrigeration maintenance experience
  • Chiller maintenance experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of commercial air conditioning and multi-zone heating and cooling systems that incorporate pneumatic, digital, and central energy management system controls.
  • Perform data entry and routine logging in the computerized controls management system (CCMS).
  • Supervise HVAC mechanics in the proper protocols and repair procedures.
  • Maintain flexibility and be available for duty during short-notice or urgent situations.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing building control systems; optimizing controls and equipment for better usage by owner.
  • Installing, replacing, or repairing equipment; including the need to calibrate thermostatic controls; worn heating, ventilation and air-conditioning parts and equipment.
  • Assists with construction projects affecting HVAC equipment or systems.
  • Repair or replace low- and high-pressure liquid lines.
  • Assembling and installing metal ductwork.
  • Develop heating, ventilating, and air conditioning system modification plans.
  • Create and maintain preventive maintenance checklists for equipment.
  • Perform weekly site inspections and prepare a weekly status report for the Manager Facilities.
  • Inventory and catalogue HVAC systems by building/campus (including equipment type, manufacturer, serial number, capacity, and date of manufacture/install).
  • Interprets as-built building blueprints and recommends system modifications.
  • Researches and proposes materials for HVAC systems repair, and maintenance.
  • Perform testing HVAC and Refrigeration for efficiency.
  • Repairs and replaces defective equipment, components or wiring.
  • Installs, connects and adjusts thermostats, humidistats and timers.
  • Braze or solder parts to repair defective joints and leaks.
  • Perform mechanical overhauls and refrigerant reclaiming.
  • Maintains campus air handling equipment, chillers and ice machines.
