About The Position

This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of various HVAC and plumbing systems. The role involves diagnosing problems, performing repairs, managing parts, and ensuring the proper functioning of equipment. The HVAC Specialist will also be responsible for water treatment, cooling tower maintenance, boiler maintenance, and coordinating with external contractors. Additionally, the role requires managing alarms and assisting with the operation of the Metasys system. This is a hands-on role requiring a strong understanding of HVAC principles and troubleshooting skills.

Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent
  • Master HVAC License, required
  • Six to seven years of experience
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing preferred but not required
  • Successful candidates will need to complete a pre-employment drug screen, motor vehicle check, and background check as part of the Waukee Community School District hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair exhaust fans, including bearings, belts, and grease.
  • Maintain and repair air handling equipment, including greasing and repairing bearings and belts, and maintaining/replacing motors, pulleys, and springs.
  • Clean coils, pans, and drains.
  • Repair or replace dampers, damper motors, and seals.
  • Monitor Metasys for proper operating temperatures, airflow, and damper operations, and make necessary repairs.
  • Maintain and repair all pumps and motors, including rebuilding pumps, replacing pumps and motors, seals, and greasing bearings.
  • Diagnose problems with HVAC equipment to determine necessary parts for repairs.
  • Locate pricing for parts, order parts, and pick them up if needed.
  • Change filters in all air handling equipment.
  • Maintain all air conditioning equipment, including coil cleaning, diagnosing and repairing problems, controls, and refrigerant.
  • Perform water treatment for all closed-loop systems (chilled water, heating water), adding correct chemicals as needed.
  • Perform water treatment for condenser water systems, monitoring chemical levels, adjusting as needed, and maintaining/repairing chemical pumps, cleaning chemicals, pumps, injectors, testing, and ordering chemicals and related materials.
  • Maintain and repair cooling towers, including cleaning, greasing bearings, replacing belts, and replacing motor-to-shaft couplings.
  • Clean and maintain all pump strainers.
  • Maintain and repair boilers, boiler controls, pumps, flush and drain lines, and piping; diagnose and repair boiler issues.
  • Contact, schedule, and deal with outside contractors for work that cannot be performed in-house or due to time constraints.
  • Diagnose and repair any HVAC or plumbing related issues that were not done correctly during construction.
  • Perform repairs for all work orders in a timely manner, considering all other responsibilities.
  • Deal with and take care of all alarms coming in on Metasys, which can range from room temperatures to equipment downtime and are often emergencies.
  • Assist with managing, explaining, and operating Metasys.
