About The Position

LC State invites applications for the position of HVAC Specialist. Salary and rank based on experience and qualifications: $21.63 - $22.84. This role involves performing journey-level maintenance, installation, and repair of heating, HVAC, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Responsibilities include analyzing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on all HVAC systems, replacing components, preparing systems for seasonal changes, and managing water treatment for various systems. The specialist will also inspect and maintain specialized equipment, perform plumbing repairs, and respond to emergency call-backs. The position requires the ability to work at heights, operate specialized equipment, and possess a valid driver's license. Additional duties support student recruitment and retention.

Requirements

  • Charging, starting, and checking for proper operation of HVAC-type equipment and related devices.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing digital electronic and pneumatic HVAC control systems.
  • Starting, stopping, and troubleshooting chiller operations and chilled water systems.
  • Modifying and/or installing natural gas and water piping.
  • Operating, maintaining, diagnosing problems, and repairing industrial-type HVAC systems and control devices.
  • Performing basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and sheet metal work.
  • Welding and repairing materials and brazing pipe.
  • Cutting, brazing, and soldering high-pressure refrigerant piping.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing approximately 90 pounds, bend, stoop, shovel, and climb ladders.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Additional experience in one or more of the Maintenance trades, as posted by the State, namely electrical, plumbing, carpentry or groundskeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey-level maintenance, installation and repair of heating, HVAC, ventilating and air conditioners and systems; perform related work.
  • Analyze, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on all HVAC systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and buildings.
  • Replaces belts, filters, and bearings in equipment.
  • Prepares system for winter/summer carry-over and cold/hot weather conditions.
  • Performs cooling tower water treatment and closed-loop water treatment.
  • Maintains, operates startup/shut down steam boilers; performs water treatment of all steam systems.
  • Installs/inspects thermostats and electrical wiring of furnaces, unit heaters, and cooling units.
  • Adds chemicals and analyzes water treatment for chill water and heating systems.
  • Maintains air distribution and balance systems and heat exchange equipment.
  • Inspects and maintains specialized items such as clothes washers, dishwashers, coolers, freezers, ice machines, and domestic refrigerators.
  • Repairs broken pipes, fixes leaks, and cleans blocked pipes; installs and repairs plumbing.
  • Responds to emergency call backs.
  • Must be able to work on building roofs, in man lifts, and on ladders and must know how to properly and safely set up a ladder and operate a man lift.
  • Additional duties include direct and indirect activities to support recruitment and retention of students.
