About The Position

The HVAC Refrigeration Technician position with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs offers a hands-on role where your skills ensure safe, efficient, and dependable facility operations at Fort Indiantown Gap. This work supports essential missions and helps protect sensitive areas that rely on steady temperature control. This position ensures that heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems at Fort Indiantown Gap operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. It involves maintaining many types of equipment and applying technical knowledge to keep facilities running smoothly.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the HVAC and Building Automation Technician trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Three years of experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC and refrigeration systems, units, and equipment including one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls.
  • Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • Must obtain EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification from an approved provider within 6 months of employment.
  • Must pass a favorable National Crime Information Center (NCIC) screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Willingness and ability to work in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania
  • Possession of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Certification
  • Possession of an Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints or wiring diagrams and schematics
  • Experience making adjustments and repairs to heating systems (steam, hot water, and gas), as well as refrigeration and freezer units (reach-in and walk-in)
  • Experience installing refrigeration or HVAC systems, units, equipment, and peripheral devices
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on all related equipment
  • Experience responding to emergencies by going onsite and troubleshooting problems
  • Experience making online or in-person adjustments as needed to maintain comfortable conditions
  • Experience conducting building inspections to ensure adequate heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, and air circulation in buildings

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC units, test for leaks, and check system operation
  • Clean and adjust pneumatic and electronic controls, sensors, and actuators
  • Evaluate system behavior and identify issues that affect overall efficiency
  • Set and calibrate dampers, valves, and hydronic components to achieve proper system balance
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment, conduct tests, and service commercial or multi-unit systems
  • Repair electrical controls, determine load requirements, and install wiring according to safety codes
