About The Position

This position allows you to use your technical skills to keep vital hospital systems running as a Refrigeration Technician with the Department of Human Services. This position supports a facility that depends on reliable heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment every day. You will work with a variety of tools and systems that make the hospital safer and more comfortable. Your expertise will help ensure smooth operations at Norristown State Hospital. The work involves technical troubleshooting, system upkeep, and collaboration with other staff to ensure dependable environmental controls.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the HVAC and Building Automation Technician trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Three years of experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC and refrigeration systems, units, and equipment including one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls.
  • You must obtain EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification from an approved provider within six months of employment.
  • You must be in possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act. Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Repair heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems throughout the facility
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues using schematics and control systems
  • Install new HVAC and refrigeration units, including tubing, fittings, and assembly
  • Complete routine maintenance and clean towers, coils, and related components
  • Observe all safety rules and follow proper procedures during every task
  • Provide updates to the supervisor on completed work, needed supplies, and future tasks
