About The Position

The City of Bowie is seeking applicants for the position of HVAC Mechanic. This role involves performing skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for municipal facilities. As part of the Building Maintenance Team, this position is responsible for a variety of tasks related to the upkeep of City buildings and properties, with a specialty in HVAC system troubleshooting and repair. The role also supports other trades such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance. The HVAC Mechanic I works under limited supervision, performing routine and emergency repairs, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and collaborating with other maintenance staff. The HVAC Mechanic II performs advanced work, operating independently or leading small teams to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain complex HVAC systems, while also providing support in other building maintenance areas. The HVAC Mechanic II plays a key role in maintaining building systems, ensuring occupant comfort and safety, and overseeing preventive maintenance and emergency repair operations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Completion of an HVAC apprenticeship program.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience in HVAC installation, maintenance and repair (HVAC Mechanic I preferred).
  • Five years of HVAC maintenance experience (HVAC Mechanic II).
  • Significant building maintenance experience with plumbing, electrical, or mechanical repairs (HVAC Mechanic II).
  • OSHA 30 Hour Construction certification (HVAC Mechanic II).

Responsibilities
