About The Position

This position is HVAC Mechanic I located at the Dan River Prison Work Farm in Blanch, NC. This facility houses approximately 640 minimum, male offenders. Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the HVAC Mechanic I position will perform a variety of installs and preventive maintenance.

Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.

Nice To Haves

Documented experience in HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Systems.
Documented knowledge in reading blueprints, schematic and wiring diagrams.

Responsibilities

Perform task for three facilities specific to heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment.
Troubleshoot and test electrical, digital, and pneumatic controls.
Perform preventive maintenance actions as required on HVAC and refrigeration equipment, ice machines, water coolers, water pumps, and air compressors.
Instruct lower-level assistants and offenders in performing technical repairs.
Supervise minimum custody offenders during work assignments, contact and communication will be frequent.
Must be available on a rotating basis for emergency call back.
Use a computer to submit and complete some work assignments, quotes, pricing, purchase request etc..
Additional duties as assigned.
