About The Position

The HVAC Mechanic II performs skilled work operating, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration, cooling, ventilating, and heating equipment within an assigned area. The position acts as a lead worker, trains and supervises entry-level mechanics, interprets plans and blueprints, and drives between work sites. The normal schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; shift work or weekend work may be required. This is a campus-only search, and applicants must be current University of Alabama employees.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Four years of HVAC experience.
• EPA Section 608 HVAC Universal Certification.
• Valid U.S. driver's license.
• Must be at least 19 years old at the time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report compliant with University policies; applicants under 21 will have some driving restrictions.
• Successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
• Successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation, including review of information from social media and other internet sources.
• Ability to lift, handle, and maneuver job tools, materials, and supplies.
• Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot blueprints, drawings, manuals, maps, schematics, and plans.
• Ability to perform material takeoffs.
• Good people skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be a current University of Alabama employee to be considered.

Responsibilities
