About The Position

This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer. Under general supervision, performs technical work of moderate difficulty providing maintenance and repairing HVAC systems; this position has department specific responsibility. Responds to and address concerns related to HVAC systems in all County facilities in accordance with mechanical and electrical codes, making appropriate decisions based on education, work experience and direction provided from supervisor; checks and monitors HVAC systems to ensure systems and controls are operating properly, perform inspections on HVAC equipment and check Energy Management System on routine basis to identify potential operational issues; installs, maintains and repairs HVAC equipment, components, control systems and power systems, utilize diagnostic and testing equipment and interpret results; reviews and evaluates work orders for HVAC systems and other specialty components; completes assigned work orders, identify material and equipment needs for each assigned project, order supplies and equipment, and process and submit work authorization documents; assists with repairs, preventive maintenance and component replacement for mechanical systems, electrical and plumbing systems; perform maintenance and repairs within scope of authority and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures, and notify supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority; operates specialized equipment and vehicles in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; maintains records, logs of services performed, time and material costs; enters work order and project completion data on computer systems and prepare written reports as required; inspects work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are followed and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operation condition. Reports safety hazards, equipment problems, repair needs, security issues and emergency situations; responds to emergency service calls after normal business hours, as directed by Supervisor; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three (3) years HVAC and/or electrical experience in a commercial/industrial setting
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must obtain an EPA Universal Certification 608 for compliance with liquid refrigerant recovery and record keeping regulatory requirements, a Lock out/Tag out Certification and R410A Safety Training within one (1) year of employment
  • Requires successfully completion of a background check
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license
  • Knowledge of County policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations
  • Knowledge of refrigeration and air conditioning maintenance practices including control systems
  • Knowledge of ventilating and heating systems including safe handling and record keeping procedures
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and required preventive methods
  • Skill in reading blueprints, specifications, and sketches
  • Skill in using computer to monitor AC systems
  • Skill in solving problems using practical mathematics
  • Skill in using test instruments related to the trade
  • Skill in use of tools, equipment, and materials common to the trade
  • Skill in safely operating a variety of equipment, and maintaining safety standards
  • Ability to be exposed to exhaust, chemical fumes and hazardous materials
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Ability to work in varying extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to recognize hazardous conditions and react appropriately

Responsibilities
